The Rockies win a close one
Montas makes his Rockies debut
Frankie Montas made his Rockies debut on Tuesday night, and it was a bit of a mixed bag. He allowed just two runs on four hits over five innings, but he also walked four batters and hit another. The Rockies' bullpen was able to hold on for the win, but it was a close one.
The costly pitch
The big mistake Montas made was a 94 mph fastball that he left over the plate to Brewers' first baseman Keston Hiura. Hiura crushed the pitch for a two-run homerun, giving the Brewers an early 2-0 lead.
The Rockies' offense
The Rockies' offense was able to scratch across three runs against Brewers' starter Brandon Woodruff. C.J. Cron hit a solo home run in the second inning, and Ryan McMahon and Yonathan Daza each drove in a run with singles later in the game.
The bullpen comes through
After Montas left the game, the Rockies' bullpen was able to hold the Brewers scoreless over the final four innings. Daniel Bard pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn the save.
What's next?
The Rockies will face the Brewers again on Wednesday night. Kyle Freeland will start for the Rockies, while Corbin Burnes will start for the Brewers.
