Hare Coursing Gang Jailed After Police Operation
Lincolnshire Police have jailed a gang of hare coursers after a major operation targeting the illegal bloodsport.
The gang, who were operating in the Spalding area, were found guilty of a string of offences, including trespass, poaching and animal cruelty.
The convictions follow a two-year investigation by Lincolnshire Police's Rural Crime Team, which led to the seizure of 22 dogs and a large amount of equipment used for hare coursing.
Hare coursing is a cruel and illegal blood sport in which hares are chased and killed by dogs. It is a major problem in rural areas across the UK, and Lincolnshire is one of the worst-affected counties.
The gang were sentenced to a total of more than 10 years in prison. The sentences send out a clear message that hare coursing will not be tolerated in Lincolnshire.
PCSO Andy Fisher, from the Rural Crime Team, said: "This was a significant operation which has resulted in the successful prosecution of a gang of hare coursers who were causing misery to the local community."
"Hare coursing is a barbaric and illegal activity which has no place in our society. We are determined to crack down on this type of criminality and bring those responsible to justice."
