Consumers Energy to Clear Trees Along 7,000 Miles of Power Lines
Stepped-Up Commitment to Protect Public Safety
Jackson, Mich. (July 23, 2024)
Consumers Energy announced today that it will clear and remove trees along over 7,000 miles of power lines this year as part of a stepped-up commitment to protect public safety and reliability.
The work is part of the company's ongoing vegetation management program, which helps to prevent power outages and ensure that lines can withstand severe storms. Trees that are too close to power lines can cause outages when they fall or sway into the lines, or when their branches grow into the lines.
"We are committed to providing safe and reliable electricity to our customers," said Dennis Locke, Consumers Energy's vice president of electric operations. "This work is essential to reducing the risk of outages and keeping our communities safe."
Consumers Energy will use a variety of methods to clear trees, including hand-cutting, mechanical cutting, and aerial spraying. The company will also work with property owners to identify and remove trees that are a hazard to power lines.
The work is expected to be completed by the end of the year. Consumers Energy will notify customers in advance of any work that will be done on or near their property.
