Antique and vintage registrations for classic plated vehicles are available for vehicles 25 years old and older. There are additional benefits to having this type of registration which are outlined below. Definitions, exemptions, and classifications of these vehicles are also provided.
Antique, Classic, and Vintage Registrations
To qualify for an antique or classic plate, an applicant must provide proof of ownership of a qualifying vehicle. Antique and classic vehicles that are at least 25 years old may qualify. Vintage registrations are intended for vehicles that are at least 35 years or older, primarily manufactured before 1946, but do not qualify for an antique or classic plate.
Benefits of Registration
These registrations offer certain benefits including:
- An antique plate is non-expiring and allows operation of the vehicle far beyond the normal registration renewal dates.
- Classic plates are valid for one year and have an annual renewal date.
- A matching vanity plate is available for a one-time $25 fee when applying for any of the aforementioned registrations.
Definitions
- Antique - A vehicle that is at least 25 years old and is in its original condition or has been restored to its original condition.
- Modified - A vehicle that has been altered from its original condition.
- Reproduction - A vehicle that has been built to resemble an older vehicle.
- Historic - A vehicle that has historical significance.
- Vintage - A vehicle that is at least 35 years old and primarily manufactured before 1946.
